It was sunny, but windy. Not the ideal spring
weather we had experienced much of this winter. But it was the
first official meet of the outdoor season, and both girls' and
boys' Great Valley and the Strath Haven teams showed good depth.
The Strath Haven girls took the Division II team competition with
Great Valley 2nd. The Strath Haven guys won the Division I boys,
downing a strong Cardinal O'Hara squad.
In the girls Division I competition, Ridley took
the team title by placing well in the field relays. They took
the Discus, and got 2nd in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put
and Javelin. In the running events, they took the Shuttle Hurdle.
Upper Darby was 2nd five points back. O'Hara took the SMR, DRM
and 4x200, while Chester captured the 4x100 and 4x400.
Even though Great Valley's girls took the 4x100,
x200 and x400, Shuttle Hurdles, High Jump and Triple Jump, Strath
Haven's depth by placing top three in 12 of the 15 events proved
the difference. They captured the 4x1600, Long Jump, Shot Put
and Discus relays.
The Strath Haven boys were even more dominant,
taking first in the 4x100, x200, x400, x1600, SMR and DMR on the
track, and the High Jump, Triple Jump and Discus in the field.
The Chichester boys defended their home meet,
taking Division II by 23 over Great Valley. Chichester took the
4x100 and 4x200, with Great Valley victorious in the Shuttle Relays,
4x800, 4x1600 and SMR. The difference was in the field, as Chichester
took the Pole Vault, Triple Jump and Discus.
